The Romance attunement

The inner landscape of each individual collides in a romantic partnership giving birth to a complex little universe. A host of characters—imaginary, alive, deceased—influence the lovers. Their values and the conditions of their shared life produce a symbology unique to their partnership. A private language is created in which words and phrases reference shared memories and private understandings. We became life companions upon first meeting in 2008. Each of the pages in this book are based on a quality or force active in our relationship, up until the birth of our child in 2017. We recorded each aspect of the relationship—represented by a location, object, archetype or cosmic event—in the form of an attunement card. Finally, Carlos arranged archival prints of the cards on handpainted paper, bound the pages into a book and constructed a box to house it. This collection of drawings can be a pillow book, a tarot deck or a kaleidoscope of the complex facets of a romantic partnership.
